Saplings
Saplings 2024
The Trust and Glenorchy & Innishail Community Action Group were delighted to receive funding from The National Lottery Community Fund to secure the running of Saplings for the next 2 years. This year’s Saplings offered the following exciting activity sessions for the children of Crianlarich and Dalmally Primary Schools:
July 10th: Make your own pot with Nicola Lindsay at Crianlarich Village Hall.
July 15th: Cycling in Tyndrum Community Woodland with Trailcoach Ramsay MacFarlane.
July 23rd: Indoor games day & lunch at the Hungry Haggis with Dalmally Youth Group hosted by Lisa Beckett.
July 29th: Hands-on estate management with Falcon Frost at Glenfalloch Estate.
August 2nd: Canoeing in Strathfillan with Matt Brook from Active Stirling.
The participants were a credit to themselves, their families and their schools as they socialised and engaged with each other and the activity sessions. We believe the children really enjoyed all sessions and we were delighted to see the great enthusiasm and attention towards delivering a fantastic experience from all session leaders and assistants. Across every session, we seen many examples of all participants working together to overcome the challenges of the various activities they encountered, showcasing the many attributes and qualities they possess. We firmly believe all the individuals in this group will develop into resilient and well-rounded members of our respective communities.

What is Saplings?
The Trust's Saplings Sessions have been going for over a decade and are weekly sessions that take place during the summer holidays. They provide the opportunity for local children, aged 5 to 12, to get together and enjoy fun, educational and challenging outdoor activities that also boost their health and well-being.
Over the years we have provided a variety of activities, from woodland arts and crafts, to orienteering, to learning about deer stalking. The sessions are led by professional local or regional people with support from an employed session assistant.
Recent Activities Provided
In 2019 our activities comprised:
Canoeing with Active Stirling
Deer stalking and estate management with Glen Falloch Estate's stalker
Wood crafts with Green Aspirations
Pot making with a local ceramicist
Bushcraft with a Ranger from the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park
Shoreline ecology - a visit to the Ocean Centre and beach in Oban.
Due to the 2020 pandemic all sessions are cancelled and we hope to return in 2021
